Adult Faith Groups

Small Faith-Sharing Groups

Small groups of 8-12 parishioners meet here at the Centre or in members' homes for six weeks during the Fall and/or Lenten season. During the meetings a topic is read and discussed, there is time for faith sharing and some quiet time for prayer and reflection. No formal training or scriptural background is needed. Topics may include the current weekly scripture from the Sunday liturgy, an examination of some aspect of Christian prayer, mission or spirituality. Small groups are powerful vehicles for making new friends, learning prayer, mutual support and the shared experience of living out our faith in everyday life.

Participation in small groups helps

1) you get to know others in the Community,
2) enables you to strengthen and grow in faith,
3) is FUN! (Ask someone who has participated!)

All community members are encouraged to consider a small group at least once a year.

Coffee and Catechism
(for parents and other grown-ups)!

“For what can be known about God is evident…because God made it evident. Ever since the creation of the world, God’s invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood…” Romans 1:19-20

Throughout history, to the present moment, religious beliefs and practices express the human search for God. As creatures made in God’s image and likeness, each one of us has been given a mind to search for the truth and a heart that longs for unconditional, forgiving love.

As parents, we are the primary educators of our children in the school of life and faith. How will we be able to help fill their hearts with the Faith we treasure if our own Faith has not been attended to?

In this gentle small group, coffee + questions, answers and friendship will lead to lively and informative sessions. Using the Study Guide for the United States Adult Catholic Catechism, this small group is designed to enrich your understanding of the Faith. Each of us is on a journey through life, and whether we acknowledge this or not, “Our hearts are restless, until they rest in God.” (St. Augustine)

Divine Mercy

The EADM emphasizes and promotes the concept that the Divine Mercy message is more than a devotion: It is a Way of Life. We encourage all to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily and pray for a deeper trust in God. Completion of the study of the Cenacle Formation Manual entitles participants to become Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy.
Time Requirements: Two hours a week. Year round, or as time is available to members. Mondays 7PM-9PM in the Upper Room Library
Skills: A desire to learn more about the Divine Mercy Message and Devotion.
Materials Needed: The Holy Bible, Catechism of the Catholic Church, The Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul and a Cenacle Formation Manual and Prayer Book.
Coordinator : Bill Resnick 301-855-4785

Divine Mercy Devotion

Description: This group schedules and coordinates the various devotions to the Divine Mercy of Jesus by following the documentation in the "Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul." It leads the Divine Mercy Chaplet a couple times a week. This ministry provides the necessary pamphlets, music, order materials for members of the community and coordinates the Divine Mercy Sunday preparations. It also coordinates the bulletin announcements, prepares fliers, posters and handouts.

Time Requirements: Meetings as needed to facilitate necessary coordination either in person or conference calls.
Skills: A desire to spread the Divine Mercy Message and devotion as directed in the Diary of St. Faustina and Pope John Paul II (encyclical, Dives en Miscordia)
Coordinators: Bill Resnick 301-855-4785

Little Rock Small Group Scripture Study

Description: A deeper understanding of the Bible leads to personal transformation of attitudes, values, priorities, and actions. When we reflect seriously on the Word of God we should expect to be changed. Individual passages or readings from the Church’s Lectionary (Mass readings) can also be more fully appreciated by studying the context from which they have been excerpted.

Time Requirement: Small groups meet every Tuesday from 7:15 – 9:15 p.m. in the 8th grade classroom. Before the meeting, participants will want to prepare through personal study (using a Bible, Study Commentary and Study Guide) and prayer. Part of the weekly meeting will involve hospitality and a wrap-up lecture by our own Rob Hartley.

Introduction to Centering Prayer

Spring 08, Sunday Mornings
(6 weeks) Begins January 6th
Encountering Scripture through Sacred Reading

Scripture, when read the right way, opens doors to a direct relationship with God. However, we generally read the Bible to get religious information, to get “right answers” and to confirm our own ideas about God. We often force the Bible to conform to our own views rather than allowing the Bible to form us into God’s people. The practice of Sacred Reading is a living conversation between you and God. Using the prayer practice of listening through silence,(part one), we will use Scripture- the word of God, to hear how God speaks here and now through The Word.

RCIC -
The Children's Catechumenate

Have circumstances caused your children to have missed receiving one or more of the sacraments at the age-appropriate times? We can help.
A growing number of U.S. children and their families are entering, or reentering, the Catholic Church. Diocesan officials across the nation credit much of the increase to the dynamic nature of the Children's Catechumenate now in place in many parishes (including ours)! It was drawn directly from the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), and mandated for use in all U.S. parishes by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The Children's Catechumenate follows the same format of inquiry, instruction and initiation rites as the adult process, though scaled down to meet the needs of children. Our gentle instructions involve the family and include reading, film, music and lunch.
This program will meet the first Sunday of each month after the 10:45 am Mass in the Upper Room Library. (Because Easter is so early this year, we will meet every Sunday after the first of the year.)
